A.

My friend Angelic from my fashion school has a fantastic blog. She is always up-to-date with fashion and has great taste. Her blog is The Chic That Happened and she posts photos magazines spreads from the runway, inspiration, and her outfits. She has great styling. :)

How did you start blogging?
I started blogging to learn more and to soak in more and to, of course, write about it. I haven't been blogging for long, but already I've learned so much about fashion and style. Not to mention all the new designers I've learned about.

How you would describe your style?
I can't say that I have a certain style, I don't think I've evolved enough yet. I really just dress however I feel.

What/ who inspires you to dress the way you do?
Oh my, I get inspired by everything! It can be something complex like a character and then it can be something as simple as leaf that will suddenly make me want to wear that specific color of green.

How do you decide what to wear when you get up in the morning?
Its a long process. Basically, I rifle through all my clothes and layout a couple different options according to my mood. From that point on it gets a little crazy. Either I'll piece something together perfectly and be happy or I'll have a slight meltdown, think of something that would make the outfit more interesting, and then run around the house looking for it because,  of course, it won't be where I can see it at that point.

What do you do in your spare time?
I read. I love books and I always get lost in fantasy worlds. If I'm not doing that, I'm eating or listening to weird music.

Where do you shop?
Most of my shopping is at vintage stores, that's where the best stuff usually is. I like pieces that are different, to me they my reliable clothing. Other than that its TJ Maxx, but I recommend it just for basics. I never really find anything unique there.

What is your favourite piece of clothing?
At the moment its a pants suit my mom gave me from back in her day.

What is your favourite trend?
That's a hard one. I like trends and they can be helpful sometimes for lack of inspiration, but I try my best to stay away from them and sometimes its not easy. The challenge of coming up with something original is fun.

Is there an item you are currently looking for?
Yes, I'm currently looking for shoes with a chunky heel. To be honest, I'm scared of the flat platform that's been on the runway for Spring.

Quality or Quantity?
Quality. Quality is one of the reasons why I love vintage stores, most of the time I find good quality things there. There is nothing like having a piece of clothing that wont die after the third wash.

Do you have a favorite designer(s)? Who is it and why?
I like a lot of designers, but the one I'm currently obsessed with is Christopher Kane. I fell in love with the nebula dresses and this season when he pulled out neon skirts that almost made me dizzy, I just knew he was pure genius.

What do you hope to do in the future?
I hope to be wholly happy. Its only then that I'll know I'm doing the right thing. I want to pursue fashion and explore it like a fashionable Marco Polo, because I just love it.

Your fashion advice to others?
Be yourself. I know it sounds a like all the teen help magazines, but honestly there's something so satisfying about being yourself. As long as you're happy with you, you can wear anything and feel good.

the trench coat.

I've always wanted a trench coat. I've searched for years. I would always look for ones in stores but since the trench coat has to be a quality piece since it is the most versitile, timeless piece in the world. I would always turn a trench coat down if it was bad material, didn't look right, wasn't the right length, or had some trendy twist to it that annoyed me. And I couldn't spend me time drooling over the trench coats from Burberry that are way out of my price range, not until I'm rich that is.

The other day when I was with my boyfriend in San Francisco, I spotted a trench coat in the window of Gap. It was perfect, the neck is a bit different, but I still love it. So I went home and saw that it was $98 which is not bad for a trench coat at all. It also, thank God, comes in a petite size since I'm 5'2". My mum told me to save up and my brother laughed at my for wanting to spend that much money on a piece of "fabric."

So then I pouted for the rest of the day, then my mum told me that she would buy it for me if I kept my grades up. So I accepted the challenge.

Then I saw that on of my favourite bloggers, Karla, from Karla's Closet bought it and it looks lovely.

Isn't she cute? :) I adore the shoes too.

So that is my goal for right now. I hope you all are having a great week.

Love, Jenae.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts. I've been busy cramming stuff in for finals. I have a few things prepared but I might still lack for a bit.

I hope you all are having a good week so far and if you have finals I wish you luck!

black, white, and red all over.

Vintage coat, Merona red shawl cardigan, vintage white button up, David Page black bow tie, faux leather leggings, H&M platforms, O.P.I. "The Show Must Go On" nail lacquer, Geo ring courtesy of Armadillo Bay, bracelette from my boyfriend also from Armadillo Bay.

I love menswear and the colour red! My latest obsessions have been bow ties so I was happy when I found this one at Urban Outfitters for $5. I've been looking to get a velvet bow tie. :) I have also been obsessed with this nail polish. It looks red, and in other lights like a orange or hot pink. So pretty! And now that bracelette has been a staple that I wear 24/7.

I also love these platforms my friend got for me for Christmas! Platforms have been on the spring 2011 runway so I will be looking foward to getting more.

Well, I have a pretty busy week. Let's see how much I get up.

Love, Jenae.

Glen E. Friedman.

If you know me really well, you'll know that I have a huge fan of Lords of Dogtown. Lords of Dogtown is a film by Catherine Hardwicke that came out in 2006 with Heath Ledger, Emile Hirsch, Nikki Reed, and some others. It's about local Venice (Dogtown) skaters in the 70s where they made skating a huge thing. Skip (Ledger) creates a team, Zephyr competition team, featuring local skaters Stacey Peralta, Tony Alva, and Jay Adams. They became known as the Z-Boys. The whole film is a story about how the team changed their lives and how they created the idea of skating in swimming pools. During this time, there was a young photographer Glen E. Friedman who shot these boys and these photographs were in the skate/surf magazines.

In December there was a gallery of his work at 941 Geary Street in San Francisco. Sadly, I never got the chance to see it but here is a video that the gallery had created themselves.

keep your hopes up high and your head down low.

My mum had gave me these Betsey Johnson socks for Christmas and I've been trying to figure out how to wear them. I can't wait for spring so I can wear them by themselves without the tights. It's been pretty cold in California lately so I've been living in huge coats and heels.

Le Tigre peacoat, Delia's thermal, Mystic dress, Target tights, and Betsey Johnson socks.

hello good friend part 2.

Jake had taken some film photos while we were in Berkeley. I didn't know that they were in black and white and they look lovely!

hello good friend.

Over break my friend Jake was visiting from New York. So my best friend Brandon and I decided to take a trip to Berkeley with him. Jake brought along his film camera and took a lot of pictures that I will post up later.

So, we went to Rasputin's where I discovered The Castle of Cagliostro, an old Hayao Miyazaki film. For those who don't know me personally, you will know that I am a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki. If the name doesn't ring a bell it's the director of Spirited Away and Ponyo. Anyway, The Castle of Cagliostro is one of his older films that came out in 1979. It's definitely a good movie, it kept me on my toes.

After that we went to some vintage stores. Then we stopped at this restaurant to get Indian food for dinner. I ordered chicken and cauliflower, which was very good by the way, I'm craving it right now.

It was a nice day and I hope to see Jake again before he's back at Parsons again.

Well, I hope you guys had a lovely break and are all well rested for this upcoming year. I just signed up for the Fashion Design class at the Academy we'll see where that takes me. It also should be interesting because a few of my friends are signing up for the film classes. So it'll be nice to not be by myself on Bart. :)

That's all for now.

Love, Jenae.

2011.

What my sister made for me for Christmas.

This year I hope to:

1. Travel more.

6. Discover new places.
7. Work harder. (Probably not but whatever.)
8. Whether I decide to go to prom or not. I hope I have a good time with whatever I decide to do.
9. Leave high school with no regrets.
10. As cliche as it sounds, exercise more.

Let's see how much I accomplish this year.
